Jack Recco inherited the retail savvy gene from his father and continues to utilize the principles instilled in him growing up in Needham. Jack was a standout athlete at Needham High School and Bucknell University. After venturing west for a brief time, Jack came back in 1979 to take over the Upper Falls store with his brother-in-law, Mike O’Connell. Jack’s keen sense of inventory control is well suited for the three stores. Jack runs a tight ship and has an impact on all areas of operation.

Mike O’Connell Sr. has been working in John Recco’s stores since 1976. Mike graduated from Providence College in 1976 with a B.S. in Business Management. He married Linda Recco in 1978 and began full-time work in 1979 with Jack. He had managed in all three locations and oversees personnel, finance, customer relations, and operational areas. Mike’s working wine knowledge has been formed over 30 years of experience with travel, seminars, and Bill McDermott’s help. Outside of the business, Mike enjoys all sports especially golf.

Bob Antonellis is a native Auburndalite. He grew up around the Auburndale Market and worked for both John and Carl. Fortunately for the organization, John was able to lure Bobby out to Wayland. Bobby and Bill McDermott are responsible for the growth of the business. Bobby’s attention to detail has allowed the stores to operate efficiently. Bobby has also managed all three stores and has developed a discerning palate in over 35 years of experience.

Bill McDermott is solely responsible for the stores’ reputation as one of the top wine stores in the state. Bill has a teaching degree and was stolen from the classroom to work for John Recco. Bill’s educational background was ideal for the task of learning about wine to the point where Bill is one of the foremost authorities on wine in Massachusetts. Mr. Recco let Bill have full reign of wine buying and selling and looks back saying that it was probably the smartest decision that he ever made. Bill’s palate is unquestioned. Bill started the Post Script newsletter that has grown into a circulation of over 3,000. Bill handles all futures, fine wine buying, and wine education. Bill grew up in Auburndale and has worked for John for over forty years.

Dave Recco is one of the newer team members. Jack’s son, Dave grew up in Medfield and helped around the Holidays in many different capacities. Dave attended Lafayette College. Since coming onboard, Dave has completed several wine courses and attended many seminars. He manages the Auburndale store and is responsible for much of the buying and operations under the tutelage of Bobby Antonellis.

Mike O’Connell Jr. is a new team member, although he has worked part-time consistently through High School and College. Mike went to Wellesley High school and graduated from Trinity College with a degree in Political Science. After college, Mike began to pursue his culinary interests. He attended The Cambridge School of Culinary Arts in their Master Chef’s Program. He worked for Chef Michael Schlow at Via Matta. Mike has traveled extensively, including studying abroad in Italy, which has enhanced his knowledge in wine and other culinary areas. He has worked part time in all of the three stores before he came onboard to work full-time at Upper Falls. Mike is quick to help pair wine with food and offer other suggestions. Mike is responsible for our growing gourmet section of oils and balsamic vinegars.

Doug Carpenter started in 1993 at Upper Falls as a high school bottle redemption clerk. He worked part-time while getting a degree from Bentley College. After graduation, Doug went “down under” to work on a cattle farm and hone his Australian wine knowledge. Returning to work, Doug enrolled in the International Sommelier Guild’s Wine Course and successfully received the level 2 certificate. With his Business and Computer training, Doug is responsible for the implementation of the store’s POS system.

Tim Naughton came to work for Post Road Liquors in 1994. As a young manager he developed his wine knowledge and his retailing skills on the job. Around 2000 he wanted to expand his industry knowledge and went to work for Ruby Wines as their warehouse manager. His familiarity with the wholesale side of the industry has become useful to the stores now that he is back at Post Road. Tim helps Bill McDermott with the Post Script and has a great sales demeanor on the floor.

Tim Steele has been at Post Road Liquors since 1990. Younger in appearance, he is a chiseled veteran of the retail wine business. Serving as Bill McDermott’s right hand man for so many years has given Tim the experience to where he operationally runs the show. Tim has organized our function planning operation and is responsible for day to day operations at Post Road. Tim has traveled to wineries and seminars all over the world to enrich his knowledge of wine.

Mike Clark has worked his way up through the ranks at Upper Falls and has honed his wine knowledge at Post Road. He is now a night manager in Wayland along with his responsibilities in Newton. Mike is a beer expert and is responsible for all inventories from Budweiser to the hand-crafted Belgian Ales. If there is anything that you’re looking for, Mike will try to track it down.
